The physical therapy program at Ithaca is one of the college’s flagship academic programs. The renovated space within the lower level of Strong Hall gives the program a state-of-the-art facility. This space includes administrative offices, lecture halls, and laboratory space. Specifically, the facility includes a human motion study laboratory which provides Ithaca undergraduate and graduate students an instructional environment that is second to none.
This collaboration is recognized by both Dr. Steve Siconolfi, Dean of the Ithaca College School of HSHP and CRCDS Dean of Faculty, Melanie May as an opportunity that will benefit the academic reputation and vitality of both institutions. “There is growing appreciation of the significance of the spiritual dimension of health care. Housing this component of our physical therapy program at CRCDS will facilitate further exploration of that dimension,” said Dean Siconolfi. Dean May of CRCDS noted, “This partnership is a marvelous expression of the divinity school’s grounding in the Social Gospel." Through current and future collaborative programs with Ithaca, we will be able to address the interrelationships between two of the most pressing concerns in contemporary society--health and spirituality. Work has already begun to explore the future possibly of the two institutions jointly offering an M Div. and Master of Social Work degree program.
Approximately 100 students and seven full-time, permanent Ithaca faculty members now call CRCDS home. The Ithaca program will continue to be affiliated with the University of Rochester and Strong memorial hospital. Here Ithaca Bedsagain, CRCDS demonstrates resilience, the ability to embrace change and the wisdom to remain faithful to our mission. As CRCDS President Dr. Eugene Bay said as the ribbon cutting, “This new relationship represents good stewardship for both institutions.”
